The Purpose of YOGA GURUKUL is to practise and propagate Iyengar Yoga in one of the world’s most beautiful and peaceful surroundings in the Tweed Valley Northern N.S.W Australia. With its panoramic aspect of Mount Warning, and sweeping views from Pottsville to Kingscliff beaches , it has wonderful pranic air resulting from the meeting of mountain and sea air. Click here for directions to Yoga Gurukul Gurukullam ( Sanskrit) or Gurukul ( Hindi ) means ‘Forest Ashram Schools,’ where children in the old Vedic tradition would attend schooling in the forests away from their homes. Included in their curriculum were the special arts of dancing, archery as well as yoga and pranayama and yamas (social moral ethics) and niyamas (personal moral ethics). They would then return to their parents and society with their skills. Famous of all was Rama and his brother Lakshman as told in the great Indian Literature "RAMANAYAMA" (one of the oldest Indian texts of mankind). AYUR-YOGA is also one of the aims and main component of YOGA GURUKUL,in propagating the ayurvedic lifestyles and principles of healthy foods and diets for the individual.Yoga supports Ayurveda and Ayurveda supports Yoga. Director Simon Maurizio Marrocco Simon is a Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher.In 1989 he founded St.Kilda Iyengar Yoga School S.K.Y.S. He first travelled to India in 1984 and was initiated by SRI SRI THAKUR BALAK BRAHMACHARI. In 1986 he started to practise Iyengar Yoga in Melbourne, since 1993 he has traveled annually to India to study with his teacher (GURUJI) B.K.S. IYENGAR and family, GEETA and PRASHANT. Simon conducts yearly teacher training programs and has taught in major countries around the world. In 2005 he began to create a retreat centre (Yoga Gurukul) for the benefit of health through yoga and ayurveda. |
